Robison Electronics has developed a series of mounting and assembly products to complement its lines of encapsulation shells and toroid mounting products. Some of these products were designed to be used in conjunction with specific Robison products, and others can be used in numerous other assemblies to simplify or expedite their completion.
There are numerous applications for Robison Threaded Inserts. They are designed to provide a mechanical means for mounting components and assemblies. Made of brass per QQ-B-626, alloy 360, Robison Threaded Inserts can be used whenever there is a need to secure heavy components and assemblies to a printed circuit board or chassis.
Threaded inserts can be epoxied in position on carrier plates or headers or imbedded in encapsulated assemblies. For example, they can be placed inside an encapsulation shell to become epoxied in place in prepared holes in the shell when building an assembly. Inserts incorporate a shoulder to fit the prepared hole to maintain accurate location and concentricity. The insert exterior is knurled and resists rotation when encapsulated in place in the assembly. Four full-threads provide a low silhouette and adequate strength for most applications.
Hex Head Inserts
Robison Hex Head Inserts are designed to provide a mechanical means for mounting Robison Horizontal Toroid Mount (HTM) assemblies. HTM products with a diameter of 1 inch or greater feature a recessed hex counter bored hole to accept the Hex Head Insert. The Hex Head Insert has internal threads to accept an 8-32 screw from beneath the assembly. Robison Hex Head Inserts can be used whenever there is a need to secure heavy components and assemblies to a printed circuit board or chassis.
The Hex Head Inserts are manufactured from brass in accordance with specification QQ-B-626.
Hex Head Screw
Hex Head Screw REI-CS-832-625B has a low silhouette and can be used in any application where its anti-rotation and low-profile features are desired. To mount large encapsulated components on printed circuit boards or chassis, the screws can first be passed through holes in the shell which are located so as to permit the flat hex of the screws to clear the shell's molded radius, thereby seating the screws flush against the inside bottom of the shell. Epoxying will then lock the screws in place preventing them from rotating. The Hex Head Screw is manufactured from brass per QQ-B-626, alloy 360.
Flattened leads are more easily formed than round leads, product size can be reduced, header or lead carrier plates can be eliminated, solid connections can be made and inspected as a final step at the top of the assembly and overall reliability is enhanced. The lead is round on one end for a short distance and then flattened for the rest of its length; the flattened section of the lead can be formed to the outside of the product. Leads are notched to assist in bending. Custom leads can be provided where production quantities warrant. Flattened Leads are manufactured from oxygen-free copper per MIL-STD-1276 and finished with tin-lead plating (also available in tin plating).
Surface Mount Leads
Both Gull Wing Leads and J-Leads are commonly used in surface mounting electronic components and assemblies to printed circuit boards. These leads are designed for use with specially molded encapsulation shells which provide positive location of leads in the assembly. The shell incorporates integral grooves on the inside wall surface of the shell to provide for accurate center-to-center lead spacing for each lead used. The leads mount onto a pre-assembled printed circuit board which is installed within the shell, or are soldered directly to the components of the assembly within the shell. Both leads are manufactured from beryllium copper, fully hardened and finished with tin-lead plating (also available in tin plating).
Dummy Mounting Pins
Robison Dummy Mounting Pins were developed to provide additional mounting stability and holding power when securing components to a printed circuit board. They are available in four diameters and can be utilized in any application where mechanical attachment by soldering is desired. Dummy Mounting Pins are manufactured from oxygen-free copper per MIL-STD-1276 and finished with tin-lead plating (also available in tin plating).
Robison Headed Pins feature a formed head on the diameter to control pin protrusion through a printed board, mounting header or encapsulation shell. These pins allow solder connections of electronic assemblies on one end with the other providing the external mounting terminations. Headed Pins are manufactured from oxygen-free copper per MIL-STD-1276 and finished with tin-lead plating (also available in tin plating).
Robison Press-in Pin REI-PIN-037C features an anti-rotation device and includes a formed head on the diameter of the pin to control protrusion, allowing solder connections to the leads of the mounted toroid on one end, with the other end providing the external mounting terminations. Press-in Pins are manufactured from oxygen-free copper per MIL-STD-1276 and finished with tin-lead plating (also available in tin plating).
Nylon Screws, Nuts, and Washers
Nylon screws, nuts and flat washers can be used in most assembly applications to substitute for like components made of conductive materials where both insulation from electrical conductivity and weight savings are desired.
